The Principal, Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, said: “It is with great pleasure that I welcome Professor Carter to Glasgow where I am certain she will bring strong leadership to the College of Social Sciences. She has already established herself as a thought-leader in learning and teaching as well as in entrepreneurship, her chosen area of research. I know that her experience and service in external organisations will also enhance our University’s relationships in the private and public sectors.”
Professor Carter will take up her appointment at the University of Glasgow with effect from 1 October 2019, following the retirement of Professor Anne Anderson on 31 July 2019. Professor Jude Robinson, Deputy Head of College, will operate in acting capacity as VP/Head of College in the intervening period.
Professor Muffy Calder is to serve another term as Vice-Principal and Head of the College of Science and Engineering, it has also been announced.
She told members of staff in the College: “Over the last five years across the College we have experienced significant growth in student numbers and in research. This success is because of your hard work, and I thank you. The future is looking very bright for the College.
“There are some challenges ahead, some of which are a consequence of our success, e.g. finding the right spaces to accommodate our growth and adapting to changes in research and student funding. I look forward to working with you over the next five years.“
Professor Calder is also to take on the role of Age Equality Champion for the University – a role previously held by Professor James Conroy.
She said: “I am delighted to be championing age equality across the University. This role is about representing the interests of people of all ages across the University – I plan to focus particularly on our younger Early Career Researchers to ensure they get the best possible foot on the ladder of their careers.”
